We all know that sugar is bad for us, but many of us can’t imagine having our morning coffee or tea without a sweetener. Although honey has more calories per sugar (64 calories per tablespoon for honey and 46 per tablespoon for sugar), honey is much sweeter than sugar. This is because honey has more fructose, while sugar is higher in glucose (fructose is sweeter than glucose). Because of this you won’t need as much of it to achieve your desired level of sweetness. This can actually cause you to consume fewer calories than you would if you used sugar. Eating fewer of these empty calories can help you lose or maintain your weight, which is known to be beneficial for your health.

Honey is also a source for several nutrients that are absent from sugar, meaning that honey is better than sugar from a nutritional standpoint. Honey contains trace amounts of vitamins C and B, potassium, copper, iron, and zinc, all of which are essential for your health.
